'Tough' recruitment task for law firms

Law firms are struggling to fill graduate vacancies, according to a leading international auditor.
A study carried out by Deloitte indicates 90 per cent of firms are experiencing recruitment difficulties, most notably where junior graduate positions are concerned, according to Director of Finance Online.
Smaller firms are said to be finding it increasingly difficult to fill positions with professionals of a suitable standard.
Bill Cohen, partner and remuneration specialist at Deloitte, said the legal arena was experiencing the same demographic squeeze as other intellectual capital sectors.
"The lure of positions in investment banks, US firms and in-house roles leave many UK law firms with a tough task to attract and retain quality people," he added.
The study also found that while many of those looking for employment in the legal sector were concerned about finding a balance between life and work, many were drawn towards a career in law by the potential monetary rewards.
Deloitte, along with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young and KPMG is known as one of the "big four" international auditing firms.
