Skills academy boost for graduate process industry recruitment

Graduates looking to pursue a career in the chemical, pharmaceutical and polymer industries could receive a boost following the government's announcement of a new National Skills Academy (NSA) for the industries.
The NSA for the sector known as Process Industries will be wholly-owned by Cogent, the sector skills council, and follows a similar announcement for the nuclear sector in September.
In a statement, Cogent claimed the academy would help to fill a skills shortage in the sector, as well as improving training and increasing productivity.
Tony Burke, Cogent board member, said: "These important industries, which include chemicals, pharmaceuticals and polymers, face both skills gaps and skills shortages.
"This clear investment in the skills of the workforce is vital to the long term success of the sector and for the workforce," he added.
The government has so far announced a series of National Skills Academies in industry sectors including construction, manufacturing and financial services, all of which may enhance graduate recruitment opportunities in each area.
