Employees that are given technological devices such as BlackBerrys and mobile phones as part of their job are working an extra 20 hours per year, according to new research.
Conducted by secretarial and office support recruitment consultancy Office Angels, the study discovered that 40 per cent of respondents were glad to receive the technology, even though they were essentially giving back holiday entitlement.
Some 41 per cent stated that such devices ensured they made the most of their time spent at work.
Furthermore, one in seven respondents said they believed BlackBerrys worked as a stress reducing device.
Commenting on the issue, David Clubb, managing director of Office Angels, said: "It's important that you maintain a work/life balance and keep work in perspective.
"Occasionally we all need to work outside of normal hours, but this should really be the exception not the rule. Be disciplined about whether you really need to log-on."
