York graduate is the brains behind exciting mobile jobs app

Published: Tuesday, 09 February 2016   Category: All Graduate Jobs News

An innovate jobs app, created by York Graduate Charlie Taylor, boasts the involvement of more than 40 big name companies and has received an incredible 10,000 downloads in its first four months.

The former University of York student first launched the app in October last year, claiming that it is the world’s first app solely dedicated to aiding students in their job search.

Charlie, who graduated in 2011 with a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, created the app ‘Debut’ in response to the interaction issues between employers and students.

Debut, which is a free download for students, enables graduates searching for their dream career to sidestep lengthy application forms and psychometric testing.

Asides from benefitting job seekers, it also poses as a huge advantage to employers who are able to use the ‘Talent Spot’ method to send direct notifications to the mobile phone of a potential candidate.

The founder says that so far, the app is a huge success and that graduates have been offered job roles within companies they would never have thought of as an option.

One quirky feature of the app is that it uses mobile games as a way for job seekers to learn more about a company’s opportunities. Graduates are even able to land internships by winning games on the app.

Mr Taylor said: “We have designed Debut to provide a much-improved, personal and accessible experience that is not a job board on a mobile but offers real insight, direct communication from top employers and real opportunities to help students choose and start their careers early on.

“Lots of people come up with good ideas and are often recognised for this, what often goes unseen is the ability to take an idea and execute it well with constant perseverance.”

A vast array of opportunities exist for graduates in the current job market but they need to be aware of what is available. Grad Plus has a wide range of graduate schemes and internships for those might be considering their options
