What KPMG are looking for in graduate job applicants
Friday, 22 May 2009
University leavers having to hunt for a graduate finance job this summer have been given advice in what to expect from the application process at KPMG, one of the big four accountancy firms in the UK.
According to Lesley Winterflood, head of recruitment for the UK at the company, CVs should be succinct, clear and correct and demonstrate the academic qualifications and other requirements needed for a graduate finance job.
After that, according to the company, it is all about competency - KPMG's application process works out who has the necessary starting requirements, but its interviews and assessment centre are more competitive.
Ms Winterflood said: "People have to meet the academic criteria, so if they don't meet the economic criteria then they don't get through to the next round. Once they get through the application it is all competency-based."
Graduates looking for jobs need to stand out from the crowd in order to have a chance at competing for a position in the current climate, according to Richard Brown, chief executive of the Council for Industry and Higher Education, writing in the Independent recently.
