New research has indicated that FTSE-listed companies are more environmentally friendly than their less wealthy counterparts.
A study of more than 1,000 companies by Adecco has discovered 52 per cent of FTSE firms choose to recycle their electronic equipment, with only 39 per cent of non-listed firms doing so, reports Recruiter magazine.
Some 76 per cent of employees at FTSE companies believed their business took environmental considerations into account.
Adecco Group UK & Ireland chief executive Rene Schuster said climate change is a powerful issue and one which was now encouraging employees to work for organisations with environmentally-friendly policies.
"Employers not only have a responsibility to the environment to address high carbon emissions, but also to their employees as many will be looking for a company," he added.
Under the terms of the Companies Act 2006, UK firms now have a statutory responsibility to consider how their business practises impact upon the local community and environment.
