Up to 3,000 jobs to be created in Stoke enterprise zone

Up to 3,000 jobs, including graduate vacancies, could be created in a planned city enterprise zone in Etruria Valley, located in Stoke-on-Trent.

The Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership have been campaigning for the former steelworks to be turned into an enterprise zone, according to The Sentinel newspaper.

St Mowden, the company which owns the area in question, has announced that thousands of jobs may be created.

Ben Adams, the cabinet member for economic growth on Staffordshire County Council, said that the enterprise centre would move growing businesses from other areas of the region.

"We are aware of views on displacement, businesses moving from ten miles down the road," he said.

"But if the business is growing and we want to keep it in the area, it may otherwise have to move somewhere else."

On March 23rd, chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne announced that over 20 new enterprise zones were to be created across England.
