Graduate opportunities in retail may be coming to Essex after a shopping centre has announced up to 1,500 jobs may be created with upcoming expansion.
Around £160 million is to be invested in Lakeside Shopping Centre, based in West Thurrock. This will lead to the jobs, which may include graduate vacancies, according to the Basildon Recorder.
Capital Shopping Centres, the company which owns Lakeside, has said it wishes to expand the retail centre by the area of four football pitches, bringing praise from the government.
Jackie Doyle-Price, the member of parliament for Thurrock, told the news provider that the plans were "great news" for the local economy but warned that the development must be fully thought through.
"Expansion at Lakeside underlines its status as a major retail hub and I welcome the investment and the jobs that will flow from it," she said.
"But, we do need to ensure the local infrastructure is able to cope and since the vast majority of shoppers get to Lakeside by car, this will add to the pressure on Thurrock’s already overloaded road network."
