Trafalgar Square plinth graduate gets job

Published: Friday, 04 September 2009   Category: Life after graduation

A young man who advertised his search for a graduate job using Anthony Gormley's celebrated One & Other project has now been employed.

The art project involves letting members of the public onto Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth in London for an hour at a time and Swansea University graduate Alex Kearns jumped at the opportunity to get noticed.

He held up a giant copy of his CV during his time on the plinth after being frustrated at the lack of opportunities open to him on the graduate job market – and now he has been offered the position of sales executive at the International Business Development Group.

Alex said of the quirky stunt: "In the current climate, you have to work hard to stand out from the crowd! I saw this as a golden opportunity to sell myself."

With the graduate job market proving to be a competitive one at the moment, four proactive degree-holders from the University of Derby recently set up their own enterprises, according to the Derby Telegraph.
