The Times Higher Education rankings has revealed the top universities for graduate employability in the UK, with the University of Cambridge coming out on top.

Universities across the UK have been ranked on how successful they are at preparing graduates for the workplace for the study, produced as a collaboration between human resources consultancy Emerging and employment research group Trendence.

The University of Cambridge, University of Oxford and London School of Economics made up the top three of the UK rankings, respectively.

Many graduates from Cambridge go on to lead companies or become high profile politicians, while academics can also benefit from grants to fund creative projects to explore new ways of teaching students.

The University of Oxford is renowned around the world, and has produced 27 British prime ministers and 50 Nobel prize winners to date – employers are generally confident that hiring an Oxford graduate is a safe bet.

Six months after graduation, 90% of LSE graduates were found to be working or studying further, with the majority pursuing careers in banking, finance, politics, government and public sector, consultancy or education.

Representation from the North and South

London is one of the most popular destinations for entrepreneurial students or anyone hoping to build and maintain relationships with international companies.

Half of the top 10 are London institutions, but overall there is a wide spread of universities from the North to the South, with the University of Manchester placing in fourth, beating Imperial College London and King’s College London in fifth and sixth respectively.

Making up the rest of the top ten in the University of Edinburgh in seventh, followed by University College London, London Business School and the University of Bristol.

The global ranking is compiled using the votes of local recruiters and directors of international companies, while the UK ranking uses only the votes of local recruiters.
