Top five interview mistakes revealed

News Article Published: Thursday, 29 May 2008   Category: Interviews

A company director has suggested the top five mistakes made by graduate job-hunters at interview.

Regular question-poser Sarah Drew, general manager of TheLadders.co.uk, said some graduates "shoot themselves in the foot when you actually meet them", reports Onrec.com.

Wearing inappropriate clothing, criticising past employers or colleagues, lying, acting desperate and attending unprepared are described as the biggest mistakes a candidate can make.

Ms Drew said: "What you as the potential employer has to do, is assess how much of it is just interview nerves and how much of it is indicative of their inability to do the job.

"In the current climate where no job is for life and redundancies are rife, it is more important than ever to shine in an interview and stand out from other competitive interviewees."

Gradplus.com provides a number of interview tips, including attending on time, turning your mobile phone off and demonstrating an element of career planning.
