Top firms promise to create UK jobs and graduate opportunities

Published: Tuesday, 11 January 2011   Category: All Graduate job news

Top firms including Asda, Centrica and Microsoft have promised to create jobs in the UK this year, as part of plans to drive economic growth.

Some 300,000 jobs have been created in the private sector over the past six months, according to the Conservatives, many of which were new graduate opportunities.

Prime minister David Cameron is currently holding a jobs summit with the UK's leading employers to convince them to embark on larger recruitment drives.

What's more, a survey by industry federation the EEF confirmed that the UK's manufacturing sector is expected to see strong growth this year.

"We can only get our economy back on track by creating a climate in which the private sector can grow and develop, creating jobs and opportunities for people across the country," Mr Cameron said.

"This year, the government is determined to help deliver many thousands of new jobs and I'm delighted that the companies joining me today are part of that."
