A leading forest management and timber harvesting company, Tilhill Forestry, has launched a new graduate programme for 2017.

The firm hopes to attract graduates with the energy and passion necessary to excel in a highly competitive sector.

The programme runs for three years and will appeal to those studying for a degree in forestry or related subjects such as horticulture, environmental studies or land management.

Those who prove to be successful – the process closes on 27 February 2017 – will be assigned to a business stream or district office where they will have the opportunity to learn from and shadow experienced colleagues.

Tilhill Forestry Managing Director George McRobbie said: “The forest industry is a fantastic career choice and Tilhill Forestry is a superb company to work for – we are looking for graduates with drive, enthusiasm and passion.”

Expand graduates experiences

The company, established over 65 years ago, operates from a network of offices throughout the UK, and provides a wide range of consultancy and contracting services.

A network of offices offers graduates the chance to expand their experience whilst on the scheme, as each office often carries out types of woodland management specific to the area in which it is based.

“Joining a graduate scheme is one of the best ways to get into this industry, allowing me instant management experience and responsibility, as well as the potential to gain further on the job training and qualifications that would be difficult elsewhere,” said Jude Fielding, who joined the company in 2016 through the graduate programme.

Tilhill’s training plan aims to give graduates the necessary training and experience within a few years so they have the chance to become a fully-fledged forest manager.

A graduate scheme is one of the best ways to enter the forestry industry as it is possible to combine on the job experience with the relevant qualifications.
