Thomson provides graduate jobs abroad
Friday, 20 February 2009
Despite dips in graduate recruitment recently, Thomson, the travel operator specialising in family and package holidays, has opened the doors to graduates who want to broaden their work experiences abroad.
The company is offering employment at road shows throughout the country in March, encouraging graduates to begin careers in the travel industry.
Contrary to the view promoted by reality TV programmes of holiday rep jobs being merely fun, and often debauched, work abroad can be the start of a career, with many of the Thomson management team starting at lower levels.
Ian Chapman, head of overseas operations for Thomson, said that the skills he acquired as a rep have definitely helped his career.
He added: "When employing people now I always look to see whether they have had overseas experience as it generally means that they have a great can-do attitude."
This comes after the Australian Department for Immigration reported that the number of graduates applying for Working Holiday Visas has seen a 20 per cent increase in the past year.
