There is 'huge potential' to work in the leisure industry

Published: Tuesday, 31 May 2011   Category: Sport, leisure and hospitality

University-leavers on the look out for graduate opportunities could consider hunting in the leisure sector, as there is "huge potential" for jobs.

That is according to Shakila Ahmed, spokesperson for Travelodge, who noted that the increase in booking that comes with summer will ignite recruitment drives in the leisure and service industries.

"There's huge potential to work in the leisure industry. There's still a lot of stigma attached to working in our industry, [but] the UK leisure market is actually one of the powerhouse industries of the UK, and it can help to put us back on the map," she said.

Ms Ahmed added that the stigma attached to the industry comes from shows portraying it in a bad light, such as Fawlty Towers and I'm Alan Partridge.

Travelodge is a budget hotel chain - established in 1985 - that currently operates over 380 hotels in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Spain.
