Team players needed in business

Published: Friday, 27 March 2009   Category: Career Advice

A new study has found that a greater number of team players could be needed in businesses across the UK.

Research by YouGov for BT Business found that workers are choosing to reject teamwork and teams are becoming less inclusive, with 12 per cent admitting they are becoming more insular at work.

In news which could interest people looking for graduate jobs, 27 per cent of respondents said they are working longer hours and only 19 per cent cited a preference for co-operating with colleagues.

Mike Bourne, professor of business performance at Cranfield University School of Management, said firms with business processes related to teamwork are "able to reconcile both workforce productivity and personal performance".

He added: "Team collaboration and knowledge-sharing is essential to help businesses chart a way through the current climate."

The Recruitment Society recently said that jobseekers need to highlight all of their skills in order to secure employment.
