STV opens doors to media graduates

Published: Tuesday, 07 April 2009   Category: Life after graduation

Those looking for graduate media jobs may be interested in the new graduate scheme announced by Scottish broadcaster STV, open to students in Edinburgh.

Open to graduates of Edinburgh Napier University, as well as Glasgow Caledonian and Robert Gordon universities, the positions will offer paid work at the company, according to the Scotsman.

The two successful applicants will gain work with the content and news teams and gain experience in various aspects of broadcasting, including production, development, pitching ideas, gathering news and planning.

Rob Woodward, chief executive for STV, told the newspaper: "This placement initiative is an exciting new opportunity for graduates to gain invaluable experience in television production and get a real head-start in their professional lives."

A study by university admissions service Ucas recently found that expectations of the availability of graduate media jobs are still high, with applications for related courses in 2009 increasing by 24 per cent on the previous year.
