Students urged to check parents insurance
Tuesday, 18 September 2007
University students must check their parents insurance documents before they invest in their own policy, experts have warned.
According to Cornhill Direct, many students spend money on needless cover when their parents home insurance already has them covered for their expensive items.
Mark Bishop, spokesman for the firm said: "We know from the insurance claims we receive from parents that the university lifestyle can leave students vulnerable to theft from their rooms.
"These days, students take a lot of electrical kit to university such as laptops, Mp3 players and mobile phones, so they do need to be insured."
The company claims that the need for insurance is heightened by the amount of time students spend outside their flats either in town in or in classes.
Research by the firm shows that the average student spends £23 on a night out and misses around four lectures a month due to hangovers.
