Graduates looking for work may be interested to hear that almost one in five (17 per cent) small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) are planning to take on staff over the next few months.
According to a survey of more than 1,000 SMEs by the Santander Corporate Group, more companies are looking to take on employees than those planning to shed them.
Around one in ten intend to reduce their wage bill by trimming their workforce, while 65 per cent intent to keep levels of staffing the same.
Firms generating between £1 million and £5 million per annum are most likely to be recruiting, with 27 per cent of these companies on the lookout for new talent.
Meanwhile, 23 per cent of those turning over more than £5 million are looking to add team members.
According to the Federation of Small Businesses, graduates should welcome the news with caution.
A spokesman revealed that the organisation's research had discovered that a large proportion of SMEs lack faith in job centres and prefer other means of recruiting staff.
