Skills-boosting course for those looking for science graduate jobs
Thursday, 16 December 2010
A programme has been launched in Scotland to prepare scientific university-leavers for science graduate jobs.
Science Graduates for Work is a skills-boosting programme funded by Skills Development Scotland.
The course was launched in March 2010, when nine science graduates joined the course; eight of these have already secured jobs in the industry.
Forth Valley College hosts the 12-week scheme, which combines college-based work with a placement at a life sciences company.
Joanna McGillivray, head of the applied science and computing department at Forth Valley College, praised the success of the scheme.
"Since we started the Science Graduates for Work programme, we've had a terrific response from the industry, with over 20 companies in the sector now keen to offer placements and help these graduates gain the skills they need," she said.
Forth Valley College has campuses in Alloa, Falkirk and Stirling. It offers a range of courses for school-leavers and adult learners, as well as science graduates.
