Sainsbury's to create 20,000 roles, including graduate jobs

Published: Tuesday, 11 January 2011   Category: Retail

Supermarket company J Sainsbury's is set to give the British economy a huge boost by creating 20,000 jobs over the next three years, including generating graduate jobs through a graduate scheme.

The retail giant is set to create the jobs in supermarkets and convenience stores all over the United Kingdom as part of an expansion plan.

Justin King, Sainsbury's chief executive, said that the jobs will provide a much-needed boost to the UK economy, while helping and training employees.

"We recognise the importance of doing more than simply creating jobs and this is why we are committed to providing our colleagues with an unrivalled range of training and development opportunities," he said.

Mr King particularly focused on the graduate opportunities that the company offers, "such as [an] award winning apprenticeship programme and industry leading scheme for graduates."

In the last two years, Sainsbury's has created 13,000 jobs, which brought the total number of employees at the supermarket chain to 150,000.
