Rising jobs figures 'promising' for those seeking graduate vacancies

A "particularly active" January in the recruitment arena made for a promising start to the year for the jobs market, according to one consultancy firm.

Dave Fleming, sales director at Badenoch and Clark, said he expected demand to continue to increase in the coming months as organisations seek "long-term, sustainable growth".

Companies often see filling graduate vacancies as a good way to secure long-term growth.

According to January's Report on Jobs from Recruitment and Employment Federation and KPMG, demand for permanent and temporary staff saw the biggest rises for around half a year.

"January's rise in demand for staff is extremely promising," he said.

"The beginning of the year is usually a busy period in the recruitment calendar … but an upturn in the market, and an increase in demand for candidates at firms who are embracing the upturn, has meant that this January has been particularly active."

Mr Fleming predicted that accounting, finance and HR would all continue to see growth in demand in the coming 12 months after a particularly good 2010.
