Retail opportunities 'still available' for graduates
Thursday, 30 October 2008
Careers opportunities still exist in the retail sector, despite a fall in consumer spending, it has been suggested.
According to Kate McCarthy, managing director at McCarthy Recruitment, top candidates are still in demand, reports Recruiter Magazine.
Speaking to the news provider, she said that firms continued to need an appropriate number of highly-qualified staff in order to ensure a high level of customer service, comments that may encourage those seeking positions on graduate training schemes.
Ms McCarthy added: "Going into Christmas, they are going to try and prepare themselves in order to provide the best customer service and that means having the right headcount in the business to maximise sales."
She commented that some retailers were performing better than others, noting that despite a slowdown in the retail there were "some success stories".
Commenting upon figures published by the Confederation of British Industry which revealed 27 per cent of retailers reported lower sales figures than in October 2007, Reuters claimed the fall was lower than expected.
