Recruiters look for IT skills

Knowledge and experience in IT is something employers look for when recruiting new management staff, it has been claimed.

Nick Folkes, IT director and UK head of infrastructure and operations at Tesco, believes technology skills are vital individual assets which can benefit all aspects of an organisation, reports Computer Weekly.

He said future IT managers needed to be able to explain at interview how technology can be used to improve procedures and generate new business.

"IT managers should be able to explain how a change in an IT system effects a change in a business process and show how it can lead to a cost saving," he added.

Implying that IT graduates need not be pigeon-holed into particular areas of a business; he explained how technology staff within his own organisation worked to improve the retail side of the firm.
