Public sector graduate jobs 'remain steady'
Monday, 11 August 2008
Those looking for graduate jobs in the public sector should find that there is no change in the number of vacancies on offer because of the credit crunch, one expert has claimed.
According to Anne Fairweather, head of public policy at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, demand in this area should remain steady.
She said: "Certainly, in some sectors, particularly the public sector, hiring trends are continuing as normal and you see that in the demand for medical, nursing or social care work."
Those looking for graduate jobs in other sectors should keep an eye out after the end of the summer to see how the credit crunch impacts their prospects.
Around October is the time that "the extent to which the economic uncertainty is starting to hit new recruits" will become clear, she added.
Last week, Ms Fairweather urged those looking for graduate jobs to make sure that they have sufficient experience to get the role they are looking for.
Having good qualifications is not enough these days, she stated.
