Postgraduate student helps graduate job hunters

Published: Tuesday, 27 October 2009   Category: Life after graduation

A former graduate job hunter has set up a website which encourages university leavers to communicate with and support one another while they look for employment.

Generation Lost is the brainchild of University of Reading postgraduate student Mark Hirons, who came up with the idea while undertaking a temporary position at the website design section of Yell.

According to Get Wokingham, the site is for young people to talk to each other about looking for graduate jobs, as well as more general subject matters such as politics and entertainment.

Mr Hirons told the news provider: "It will help [graduate job hunters] emotionally knowing they are not alone in that situation. In the long term it has a lot of scope for development if more and more people get involved."

Graduates working for the financial firm HSBC have the opportunity to make contacts before they start their job, thanks to a networking site recently set up by the firm, People Management reported.
