Postgraduate degree on-the-job?

Published: Tuesday, 27 October 2009   Category: Postgraduate Study

Graduates who have taken up a first job but are thinking of increasing their skills in the competitive market could take up further study while they continue employment.

A new scheme with multi-million pound funding from the EU has been launched in Wales, with some participants being able to work up to a postgraduate level while on the job.

Over 8,000 people from the country who cannot commit to full-time studying, such as those in graduate jobs, will be able to take up the training initiative, which is being led by the University of Glamorgan.

Jane Hutt, minister for education said: "It will benefit both employers and employees by offering modules that are relevant to businesses whilst helping their workforce improve their skills."

An investigation by Oxford University's student newspaper, the Cherwell, recently revealed that 17,000 students are hoping to avoid the competitive graduate job market by taking on further study at the institution.
