Poor websites 'tripping up retail recruitment'

Several top high-street retailers are missing out on recruiting thousands of talented candidates due to poor websites, according to new research
Commissioned by recruitment consultancy Hire Strategies, the study revealed that only 40 out of 100 retail recruitment sites evaluated by independent adjudicators were deemed good enough to attract applicants.
Additionally, many of those that were considered to be attractive to jobseekers were thought to be unnecessarily difficult to use.
Less than two per cent of visitors to some top high street names recruitment sites fill out an application form which represents a cost of around£300 per job applicant.
Peter Gold, managing director of recruitment consultancy Hire Strategies, commented: "Imagine going to a shopping centre, being unable to find your favourite store on the map, and finding that the people you ask for directions can't explain how to get there."
A British Retail Consortium spokesman said that retailers are constantly "looking to improve their sites".
