Those with a physics degree might find themselves in graduate jobs in some relatively unusual sectors, it has been claimed.
Writing for Nature.com, Bill Wakeham, chair of the Research Council UK's review of the subject, explained that physics graduates contribute to a wide range of sectors.
These include areas such as IT, transport, construction, aerospace and transport, he states.
"Physics graduates also find employment in sectors with no obvious connection to the subject, notably finance," Mr Wakeham says.
The subject has also benefited from an 82 per cent increase in the UK's overall science and research budget in the five years to 2006-07, he adds.
Meanwhile, aspiring scientists might find a graduate job which suits them in the cosmetics world, it has been claimed.
According to the Independent, the area offers a large variety of careers including ones which involve a research and development aspect.
Sales graduates can also find work in the sector, the paper noted.
