Peterlee-based engineering firm to create 200 jobs

Published: Tuesday, 24 May 2011   Category: Science, Engineering and IT

Around 200 jobs are to be created in the north-east of England after a firm in Peterlee won a contract to supply a Russian vehicle manufacturer.

GT Group may create graduate engineer jobs as part of the hundreds of new roles to be set up to deal with the contract, worth £50 million, reports the Northern Echo.

As part of the deal, GT Group will manufacture engines for the Russian giant GAZ Group. It expects the jobs to be created over the next three years.

Geoff Turnbull, the chairman of GT Group, told the news provider that the extra 200 workers (taking the firm's employment numbers to 500), show the company's growth.

"This prestigious contract with Russia's leading manufacturer will further cement GT Group's rapid growth and its reputation as one of the principal suppliers of engine brakes and exhaust gas control systems for the heavy-duty diesel engine markets," he said.
