The Scotland-focused investment body Scottish Enterprise has announced it is to create of safeguard 7,000 jobs - likely to include graduate roles - through Regional Selective Assistance (RSA).

According to the enterprise body, £52 million worth of investments were offered to Scottish companies through RSA in 2010-11. Around 55 per cent of these offers were made to companies owned by Scottish professionals.

Crawford Gillies, chairman of Scottish Enterprise, said that the investment is helping the economy of the country.

"I am delighted to see that that more than half of our RSA support this year went to Scottish-owned companies," he said.

"Integrating these grants with our wider package of company support has made it easier to target Scotland's most ambitious companies, while at the same time helping to build a stronger, more globally competitive economy."

Scottish Enterprise was set up to spot opportunities for economic growth in Scotland - and to invest when these opportunities come about.
