Over 1,000 jobs could be created in County Durham

University-leavers looking for graduate opportunities will be pleased to hear that around 1,000 new jobs are set to be created in County Durham after a huge investment into the area.

There is set to be an investment of about £24 million in the Dalton Park area, as local companies try to boost employment in the region of the county that became something of a "blackspot" after mines closed in the 1980s, reports The Journal.

Stuart Timmiss, the head of planning for the local council, told the news provider that he hopes some issues that appeared are ironed out.

"At the end of the day we want to see these applications resolved as quickly as possible, to get the right facilities and jobs into the county," he said.

There are also talks ongoing in the area to create around 400 new jobs at a prospective new Tesco.
