Some 40 per cent of successful financial applicants originated from backgrounds outside of PR, according to new research.
In its Show you the Money report, PR recruitment specialist The Works found that an increasing number of organisations are seeking broader skills in order to meet their recruitment needs.
Graduates may be interested to learn that high demand for good people and sector specific experience resulted in strong candidates being snapped up for higher rates than in previous years.
Commenting on the trend, Sarah Leembruggen, managing partner at The Works said: "Throughout 2007 there has been a significant rise in the number of people entering financial PR from alternative careers, in fact we've seen a significant ten per cent increase from 2006 figures."
She added that people such as bankers, analysts, accountants, lawyers and journalists have all switched to PR, attracted by shorter hours, seeing the bigger picture and increased salaries.
