Olympic Games will create 'a lot' of graduate opportunities

An employment organisation has said London's upcoming Olympic Games could boost graduate opportunities and the jobs market for young people in general.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation has announced that 'a lot of jobs' are to be created in conjunction with the Games.

Tom Handley, the director of policy and professional services at the REC, said that work had to be done to advertise graduate vacancies more widely.

"It'll clearly be significant in the short-term, in the run-up to the Games. There's going to be a lot of jobs created - that's a given," he said.

"With young jobseekers, we know that a lot more needs to be done to build bridges into the world of work and we know that a lot more needs to be done to raise awareness among young people about where the jobs are and where they will be in the future."

Some graduate roles which may open include those in construction, hospitality and retail.
