University leavers have received a boost after a leading investment banking company re-affirmed its commitment to its new UK graduate programme.
Numis had its first intake for London-based financial jobs in January and has enjoyed an 85 per cent retention rate across the board over the past four years.
Martine Skinner, head of human resources at the firm, explained that further expansion is likely in the coming months, with graduates featuring prominently.
"Although we have always had a policy of hiring exceptional graduates, this is the first time we have hired as a group," she said in an interview with efinancialcareers.co.uk.
"The programme lasts for 11 months and we will develop and manage their progress through the organisation to enable them to make a strong contribution to the future success of the business."
Ms Skinner's comments come after recent research by Astbury Marden suggested that the average number of qualified candidates for each new City job vacancy has halved from 5.7 in March 2009 to just 2.7 in March 2010.
