University leavers with degrees in PR and communications could start work for the NHS thanks to a new graduate jobs drive.
Although the healthcare service has offered graduate management schemes previously, the new initiative marks the first time it has opened its doors to degree-level PR candidates.
According to PRWeek, the pilot scheme is part of a five-year strategy to improve communications in the NHS and will involve training and skills development with a view to creating managers.
Jointly funded by the Strategic Health Authorities, the courses will focus on internal communications and change management, PR, media strategies and crisis management and strategic marketing, communication and influencing.
The Higher Education Careers Services Unit recently told the Times that public sector organisations such as the NHS should find a way to boost the graduate jobs they provide if they are to secure fresh talent in the next few years.
