Published: Saturday, 16 April 2016   Category: All Graduate Jobs News

Wolseley UK has announced the launch of a new sales graduate programme for 2016, in the hope it will bring new talent into the plumbing and heating industry.

The scheme is expected to attract well over 2,000 applications to win one of the ten places on the 18 month scheme, which will provide graduates with an ideal career opportunity within the country’s leading plumbing and heating distributor.

Those selected on the programme will be immersed into the Wolseley UK business, as well as its market-leading brands such as Burdens, Pipe Center and Plumb Center.

The programme

As well as industry leading training there will also be hands on practical experience, with the initial six months spent in branch, making sure graduates understand the ins and outs of branch operations management.

Following on from that, graduates will spend the next 12 months out in the field, presenting the opportunity to improve their management, sales and business skills through various training, shadowing opportunities and courses.

Graduates will be asked to produce some work with a commercial focus, but will receive the support and advice necessary from the company to ensure it proves successful.

Successful applicants will begin their career with a starting salary of £25,000, and have the opportunity to be offered a permanent positions within the business if they complete the programme.

The company’s aim

The hope is that the programme will create a pipeline of talent to meet the future needs of the business, which is why there is a focus on offering on-the-job experience and diverse training.

Those that have passed through the programme have hailed the amount of hands-on experience that is made available, both in the warehouse and in branch. Opportunities to work alongside senior management to get to know the inner workings of the business has proved to be hugely successful in developing talent elsewhere, and a similar approach will be adopted by Wolseley too.
