A new programme called Make Great has been launched by the manufacturer’s organisation EEF in order to help develop the next generation of leaders for industry.

The programme’s main focus will be on the development of skills and management, with an aim of helping companies to recruit, retain and train personnel for the challenges of industry.

Recent research carried out by EEF – the voice of UK manufacturing and engineering, and a leading provider of business support – found that there is a growing demand for people management within the industry.

Caroline Gumble, chief operating officer for EEF, said the rise of digital technology is set to create a series of challenges for business leaders.

Meeting the changing needs

In order to meet the changing needs, companies need to make an effort to develop leaders who have a firm grounding of the industry and who possess the right people management skills.

The programme will grant organisations access to four key areas of expertise, including retaining and recruiting talent, strategic change management and restructuring, coaching and mentoring, and people performance and skills management.

The programme will help deliver courses and qualifications at a range of levels from the Institute for Leadership Management and Chartered Management.

Companies have reported that their efforts on workforce skills development has had a significant and positive impact on company productivity over the past two years.

EEF has also launched a range of tools on their website that companies can use to find out how others have been transformed through the use of leadership development.
