New PMI statistics promising for those looking for graduate engineer jobs

Published: Tuesday, 01 March 2011   Category: Science, Engineering and IT

People looking for graduate vacancies in the manufacturing industry may be buoyed by the results of a new survey.

The results of the monthly Markit / CIPS UK Manufacturing PMI reports were revealed today, showing that the industry did not flag in the difficult month of February.

PMI was at 61.5 per cent last month, the same as in January, which in turn was the highest since records began.

The PMI, or Purchasing Managers' Index, shows the percentage of purchasers for companies that say the business conditions are better than the previous month.

If the PMI is above 50, it is generally taken as a sign that the economy is growing.

The report also found that the manufacturing sector accounts for 13 per cent of the United Kingdom's gross domestic product.

This should be promising news for people searching for graduate engineer jobs, as a growing sector is generally one that needs more employees.
