An additional 250 jobs are to be created in south Wales when HSBC expands its operation in Newport, News Wales reports.
A new customer service centre will be developed in the bank's £14 million expansion, which will also safeguard 200 existing jobs.
HSBC, whose workforce in Wales currently comprises around 2,700 people, is looking to adapt to growing demand for phone and internet banking.
Alan Jarman, HSBCs chief executive for Wales, said the bank needed to change its resources to reflect changes in the sector.
"HSBC chose to invest in Newport because of our skilled local workforce and our confidence that we can continue to recruit high quality people over the next two years and beyond," he commented.
The Welsh assembly government is supporting the company's development in south Wales, the newspaper added.
"This investment represents an important, commitment to the area by HSBC," said assembly deputy first minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones.
HSBC has 10,000 offices in 83 countries and territories around the world with its headquarters in London, according to its website.
