New IT graduate jobs for women on the cards?

Published: Tuesday, 05 April 2011   Category: All Graduate job news

More graduate jobs in IT could be created for women after the government was urged to consider ways of closing the gender gap that currently exists within the industry.

According to IT recruitment consultancy IntaPeople, more needs to be done to encourage women into the profession.

It warned that the number of females applying for jobs in the industry appears to be falling.

Phil Handley, operations director at the company, expressed alarm at the falling number of women applying for IT jobs.

"The government is placing a strong emphasis on technology as part of its latest enterprise plans, so now is an ideal time for it to take positive steps towards ensuring that more women are involved in IT and technology," he added.

Last month, it was suggested that job seekers are increasingly using social media to stay on the ball, when it comes to learning about new vacancies before they are more widely advertised.

James Swift, director of Beyond Interactive, said employers are using services such as Twitter to speed up the recruitment process.
