Nestle has announced it is will create thousands of job opportunities for graduates and young people by 2020.

The food manufacturer is planning to create at least 3,000 employment opportunities across all its sites and offices within the UK and Ireland.

Included in the figure is new graduate and apprenticeship positions in a number of areas, including manufacturing, management and computing.

The commitment is part of the wider Nestlé Needs Youth pledge to offer 35,000 work opportunities for young people in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa by 2020.

Dame Fiona Kendrick, Chairman of Nestle, described nurturing young talent as one of the firm’s “core beliefs” and said it is “at the heart of what we do”.

“We have been very privileged to have many young people join us, learn and build lifelong careers with us,” she added.

First step on the employment ladder

Nestle – who produce brands such as Toffee Crisp, Kitkat, Yorkie and Milky Bar – currently employs more than 2,000 people at its site in York, and around 600 at its Fawdon site, located in Newcastle.

The company also boasts offices in Tutbury, Halifax, Cumbria as well as Ireland and Scotland, although the main headquarters are located near Gatwick Airport.

Giving young people opportunities is important to the company, who are eager to lead the way when helping to support and develop young talent so they can become future leaders.

Since the launch of the company’s youth initiative in 2013, Nestle has managed to create around 2,000 employment opportunities for young people under the age of 30 in the UK and Ireland.

Nestle became the first food manufacturer to commit to paying the Living Wage to all its employees, contract staff and agency workers in 2014.
