More graduate roles may be available online this year

People looking for graduate roles may be able to find more vacancies online this coming year, after an expert suggested that companies who do not recruit online will "fall behind".

Businesses that have not migrated their recruitment methods to online platforms are "thrashing around in the dark ages" and run the risk of folding in three years time, the director of Ochre House has warned.

The recruitment outsourcing firm was responding to an announcement by clothing giant Primark, which revealed that it would be exclusively accepting online submissions for positions - including graduate roles - at its new Scunthorpe branch.

"At the moment, some people are using social recruiting and traditional methods, but sooner or later they're going to give up on the traditional methods or they'll be left high and dry," predicted Paul Daley, director of HR consulting and services at the firm.

He described non-online recruitment routes as "immaterial" and "archaic" services that provide "a poor experience for candidates".

However, retail companies may not be advertising as many graduate roles this year, as Joshua Bamfield, director for the Centre of Retail Research, warned that around 10,000 shops will close this year.
