More employers looking to increase workforce, say REC

Graduate opportunities may be on the rise as more companies are looking to increase their permanent workforce over the coming quarter, according to the latest JobsOutlook survey by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

The report was released on Thursday (April 28th), revealing that around a quarter (23 per cent) of all United Kingdom-based companies are planning to add to their permanent workforce in the next three months.

Roger Tweedy, director of research for the REC, said that the decrease in unemployment is due to companies employing more permanent staff.

"The current figures really do show we have a transitional jobs market borne out last week by the slight decrease in the unemployment figures," he said.

"Confidence among employers about their hiring intentions has stayed the same level as last month … [while] reliance on temporary and contract staff is still strong but it is starting to ease slightly."

The JobsOutlook poll is carried out every month by the REC, which aims to represent the employment and recruitment industries.
