Life after graduation
The top three graduate jobs with the highest earning potential for workers are management consultancy, retail and IT systems analysis, according to a survey by supermarket chain Tesco.
Graduate schemes within retail companies can expect total earnings of £140,000 after four years, beaten only by a career in management consultancy, in which graduates can expect to earn £155,000 by the time they are 25 years old.
Tesco currently offers graduate schemes in marketing, dotcom and finance, with a possible starting salary of £23,000, to rise to £47,000 in four years.
Hayley Tatum, UK operations personnel director for Tesco, said that extra training is not required as it is done on the job, but that "alongside this high level of responsibility come great rewards, and we pride ourselves on providing very competitive starting salaries and a fast track programme that allows our graduates to move up the career ladder at a great pace".
IT systems analysts are third in the list with graduates in the sector expecting to earn £113,000 in four years, and experts in the IT industry have already said that there is a shortage of qualified graduates and that companies are still actively recruiting.
