Those looking for graduate roles should ensure they check their CV for grammatical errors as these - along with spelling mistakes - are the most common shortcomings found in CVs, according to specialist consultancy The Write Stuff.
Peter Panayotou, founder and senior consultant at The Write Stuff, revealed that most of the mistakes made are not to do with facts or figures.
"Some people are not that detail-orientated, and you ought to be very thorough when going through your CV to make sure there's no spelling or grammatical errors in it," he said.
"From an employer's point of view it is important to show that you have been thorough and that you have got that attention to detail … This is a sales document that's supposed to represent you."
Mr Panayotou advised that a preference for computer spellcheckers over proof reading can backfire, resulting in misspellings or UK candidates using the American spelling of certain words.
A recent study of 600 CVs by recruitment firm IntaPeople recently highlighted the commonality of spelling and grammar errors among other job candidate blunders (May 25th 2011).
