London retail jobs 'hope' for graduates
Tuesday, 18 November 2008
Retail opportunities in the capital may still be available despite the economic downturn and ensuing fall in consumer spending, it has been suggested.
Speaking to Recruiter magazine, recruitment expert Moira Benigson said recent developments in the sector could offset job losses expected in the wake of a 1.8 per cent fall in spending since last year.
"You have to consider Westfield. Westfield has been a big employer of people and that might balance out London," she commented, referring to the development of major new shopping complex.
University leavers seeking graduate jobs in retail may also find encouragement in the words of Kate McCarthy, managing director at McCarthy Recruitment, who told the news provider that London had avoided the worst of the consumer spending downturn.
Commenting on this phenomena, she added: "I can only see this continuing when you compare this with the rest of the UK."
Earlier today (November 18th), it was announced that inflation has fallen from its record level of 5.2 per cent to 4.5 per cent, a move which may increase the amount of expendable income in many people's pockets.
