Lloyds TSB: South east leads the way in UK economic recovery

University-leavers looking for graduate vacancies may wish to search in the south east of the United Kingdom, as it was revealed the region is currently leading the way in the private sector recovery.

According to the latest Purchasing Managers' Index released by Lloyds TSB, March saw private sector growth in many regions of the United Kingdom, but in the south east, the rise was the sharpest in three and a half years.

John Maltby, the managing director of Lloyds TSB Commercial, explained the wider statistics.

"Overall, the survey is consistent with a broad-based rebound in UK GDP during the first quarter of the year, following the weather-related contraction in the last three months of 2010," he said.

Before the most recent statistics were released, the West Midlands was the region of the United Kingdom with the strongest private sector growth. The East Midlands, on the other hand, is the region that saw the weakest growth.
