Leading UK building firm expands graduate scheme

Published: Thursday, 24 September 2015   Category: All Graduate Jobs News

One of Britain’s leading building firms has expanded its graduate scheme in a bid to tackle the UK’s housing crisis head on.

Redrow Homes, based in Wales, is one of the UK’s main residential and commercial building companies and has already taken on 23 university leavers this year.

Now an addition eight graduates will join their training programme in October following heavy investment from the firm.

Successful applicants on the scheme can work across a wide range of departments, from planning and commercial work to acquisition and construction operations.

Opportunities exist in abundance for graduates too – Philippa Attwood made the leap from trainee to manager in a very short space of time.

She is based at Redrow’s West Country division in Exeter and said the chance to work across so many different roles has been particularly appealing, as they had enabled her to really “get stuck in”.

Ms Attwood explained that she got to work out as a sales consultant and as an assistant site manager, enabling her to get first-hand experience of how the company is run.

“The experience I gained was invaluable and I could not recommend the programme highly enough to young people interested in the housing industry,” she said.

Redrow has its own custom-built training centre in Staffordshire that takes on people from across the UK and last year launched a programme for those focusing on HR, finance and IT.

A total of 71 graduate trainees have joined the company’s various graduate schism during the past five years and it is viewed as a springboard for long-term careers in the housing sector.

Four fifths of the 40 graduates who joined the scheme in previous years are still with the company too, highlighting its success.

All of these individuals have achieved promotions after completing the programme while the firm directly employs around 1,650 people as well as providing employment for thousands of sub-contractors.

Grad Plus has a wide array of graduate jobs and internships across a number of different sectors within the UK
