Leadership skills 'vital for graduate jobs'

Published: Friday, 05 September 2008   Category: Industry sectors | Retail

Leadership skills are vital to graduates who want to make an impact in business, it has been claimed.

In news that might be of interest to those looking for graduate jobs, staff trainer Lisa Titcomb and retail director Liz Bennett of Lush said that having more graduates who have a grasp of the skills needed in the workplace would be "highly advantageous".

The pair commented: "Being a retail business, we would definitely appreciate more time being spent on leadership in education - as we focus heavily on this in our training."

Furthermore, they noted that it was hard to say if many transferable skills were already being taught in education as they might have been picked up from previous jobs.

Meanwhile, the National Employer Skills survey 2007 recently found that 37 per cent of employees in the UK have received no training at all from their present employer, while 48 per cent of employers said they have a current training plan in place.ADNFCR-1068-ID-18767055-ADNFCR
